Mankind mourns Nelson Mandela, a peaceful fighter for human dignity and South Africa's liberator from the oppression of Apartheid
Who would be the liberator of Palestine from the apartheid oppression of the Israeli State?

Mr Mandela led South Africa's transition from white-minority rule in the 1990s, after 27 years in prison for his political activities.
He had been receiving intensive medical care at home for a lung infection after spending three months in hospital.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is accusing Israel of creating an apartheid system in the West Bank and Gaza. The charge comes in his new book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid." Carter says, "Palestinians are deprived of basic human rights, their land has been occupied, then confiscated, then colonized by the Israeli settlers."

Composed of Anna's photographs and writings, Witness in Palestine documents her eight months working with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank, documenting human rights abuses and supporting Palestinian and Israeli nonviolent resistance against the Occupation.

"Israeli Apartheid: A Beginners Guide"
by Ben White

n a burst of uncharacteristic honesty, the then Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert asserted in 2007 that “[m]ore and more Palestinians … want to change the essence of the conflict from an Algerian paradigm to a South African one … That is, of course, a much cleaner struggle, a much more popular struggle - and ultimately a much more powerful one. For us, it would mean the end of the Jewish state.”
The apartheid paradigm here fearfully evoked by Olmert has crept slowly but surely into mainstream political discourse on the Palestine issue, but is still avoided by many who are otherwise supportive of the Palestinian cause.
This is because the paradigm seems to offer a hostage to fortune: it is too easy for Israel’s apologists to rebut it by instancing the many systemic differences between Israel and apartheid South Africa.
What has often been overlooked is that the UN General Assembly’s International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid (November 1973) extended the term to “similar policies and practices of racial segregation and discrimination as practiced in southern Africa” while defining the crime in more general terms as “inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group of persons over any other racial group of persons and systematically oppressing them.” Israel’s practices need not be compared with those of apartheid South Africa — which they often resemble — but evaluated on their own terms in the light of the Convention.

A man - capitan Guta Dinaka- disobeyed the order to kill Mandela, as Socrates disobeyed the Thirty tyrants by refusing to commit an unjustice against Leon of Salamis:
..."when the oligarchy of the Thirty was in power, they sent for me and four others into the rotunda, and bade us bring Leon the Salaminian from Salamis, as they wanted to put him to death. This was a specimen of the sort of commands which they were always giving with the view of implicating as many as possible in their crimes; and then I showed, not in word only but in deed, that, if I may be allowed to use such an expression, I cared not a straw for death, and that my great and only care was lest I should do an unrighteous or unholy thing. For the strong arm of that oppressive power did not frighten me into doing wrong; and when we came out of the rotunda the other four went to Salamis and fetched Leon, but I went quietly home. For which I might have lost my life, had not the power of the Thirty shortly afterwards come to an end. And many will witness to my words..." ('Apology' by Plato)

How Spain was deprived of democracy and led to its ruin

President Barack Obama's unexpected decision to seek approval from Congress before launching any military action against Syria surprised many of his own advisers as well as military analysts who predicted U.S. Navy ships were on the brink of firing missiles into areas around Damascus.
Obama explained the surprise move on Saturday afternoon, telling the nation: "I've long believed that our power is rooted not just in our military might, but in our example as a government of the people, by the people and for the people."
The president still noted that he believes he has "the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization."

Dictator Assad mass murdered children and innocent civilians with chemical weapons like did his father and US back dictator Saddam Hussein to his people before. Defense Minister of Israel said that Assad has been using chemical weapons against Syrians during the last two years. Last attack was launched from Brigade 155 missile base west of Damascus. Race against time to prove Assad's massacre by chemical weapons

France warns Syria of forceful response over chemical weapon claims

Global community would have to act if accusations are proved, says French foreign minister, but rules out ground troops.
France has said that the international community would need to respond with force if allegations that Syrian government forces had carried out a mass chemical attack on civilians proved to be true.
But the French foreign minister, Laurent Fabius, said there was no question of sending troops on the ground, in an interview with the television network BFM.
He added that if the UN security council could not make a decision, one would have to be taken "in other ways." He did not elaborate.
Hundreds of people are believed to have been killed in an apparent gas attack on rebel-held parts of eastern Damascus that is thought to be the most significant use of chemical weapons since thousands of Kurds were gassed by Saddam Hussein in Halabja 25 years ago.
Medics, as well as opposition fighters and political leaders, said the death toll had reached 1,400 and was likely to rise further with hundreds more critically wounded in districts besieged by the Syrian military. Other estimates put the current death toll at between 200 and 500. None of the figures could be independently verified.

On Thursday morning, rebels said new bombardments of rockets and mortars struck neighbourhoods hit by the gas attack.
The Syrian government acknowledged it had launched a major offensive in rebel-held districts in the east of the capital – described by pro-regime media as the biggest since the start of the civil war

Just like many other weapons systems, the Tomahawk missile was originally designed for a very different target from that for which it was eventually used. Syria's Christians can be the catalysts for peace: Christians have no ambition to rule Syria but they can encourage the warring parties to negotiate a peace deal.
... Although most Syrians fear radical Islam taking power, our greatest worry is that we have no alternative political system to replace the regime when it does fall. We know from our neighbours in Lebanon, Libya and Iraq that countries can descend into chaos and sectarianism when one government goes and there are no institutions to replace it.
Sadly, the whole infrastructure in Syria – political, economic and social – is rotten to the core and its institutions need to be renewed and replaced. For instance, we have two huge organisations dominating the life of children and youth but both are inextricably linked to the Ba'ath party. Civil society in Syria is totally suspended: everything has to go through the ruling party.
Because Christians are a minority, the general view is that they are sympathisers of the regime because they have been "protected" by it. In fact, under the present regime, Christians have never been given special treatment or protection in any way. Although Christians have not been persecuted in Syria, and we have been free to practise our faith and go to church, we have not been exempt from suffering under the corruption that engulfed the regime and infected much of Syrian society.

Murderous coup d'état in Egypt
How some ordinary Egyptians became ‘malicious terrorists’
It’s our dear friends the Saudis whom the Egyptian army and police can count on ...

Disgust, shame, outrage.

All these words apply to the disgrace of Egypt these past six weeks. A military coup, millions of enraged supporters of the democratically elected but deposed dictator – reports that indicate well over 1,000 Muslim Brotherhood sympathisers slaughtered by the security police – and what were we told by the authorities yesterday? That Egypt was subject to “a malicious terrorist plot”.

The language speaks for itself. Not just a common or garden “terrorist” plot – but a “terrorist” plot so terrible that it is “malicious”. Naturally, the government acquired this use of the “terrorist” word from Bush and Blair, another Western contribution to Arab culture. But it goes further. The country, we are now informed, is at the mercy of “extremist forces who want to create war”. You would think, on hearing this, that most of the dead these past six weeks were soldiers and policemen, whereas in fact most were unarmed demonstrators.

Snowden accuses US of preventing his asylum: Fugitive whistleblower to meet human rights organisations in Moscow to discuss "next steps forward"

In a letter sent to a Human Rights Watch official, former intelligence agency contractor Edward Snowden has said US officials have been waging a campaign to prevent him from taking up offers of asylum.
In the letter, Snowden said he had invited human rights groups to meet on Friday at Russia's Sheremetyevo Airport, where he has been in limbo since he flew to Moscow on June 23, to discuss "next steps forward in my situation".
Snowden said the meeting with human rights groups would be closed to the press but that he planned to speak to the media later.
Al Jazeera’s Peter Sharp, reporting from Moscow, said he had spoken to one of the Russian lawyers invited to the meeting, who believed Snowden would ask for a second time for political asylum to Russia.
"There is a long list of invitees," Sharp said. "Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UN Representative to the Russian Federation and the Deputy Speaker of the Duma."

The whistleblowers: 'The truth sets you free':

Edward Snowden's leaks about the NSA's electronic surveillance make him one of the most damaging whistleblowers in history. But what drives loyal employees to reveal the truth? And how do they live with the backlash? ... [+]

Bradley Manning: Truth on trial?: We examine the implications of Manning's trial and speak exclusively to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
This week, a special edition of the Listening Post with a special report on Bradley Manning and an exclusive interview with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange from inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
We start in a military courtroom in Fort Meade, Maryland, US where some of the media are covering the trial of private Bradley Manning - the source, according to his own testimony in February - of hundreds of thousands of confidential US documents released by Wikileaks in 2010.
Although US media outlets appear more interested in the case than during the pre-trial, the reporting is scant, because for every five accreditation requests made by journalists and interested parties, the Pentagon turned down four of them.
This trial is worth watching because of the implications for whistleblowers and the US journalistic organisations that rely on government insiders, so that Americans know what the government is doing in their name.

On the plight of courageous whistle-blower Mr Edward Snowden after Ecuador withdrew his travelling document

Two pathologies are characteristic of hispanic mentalities: 1) chieftainship (they called it: caudillismo or caciquismo) which is the drive of most Hispanic politicians who with little education and rather feeble minds, but possessing an inextinguishable thirst for power and riches, manage to take hold of a society with lies, hypocrisy, sectarianism, and an egocentric cult of themselves. The father of the Anglo-Spanish greatest intellectual poet Jorge Luis Borges, tried to express this cancer of hispanic political culture in his only novel “El caudillo” (“The Chieftain”). 2) The other pathology is their cult of the rogues, represented in their unique literary genre: the picaresque.

This pathological combination made that none of the Hispanic countries has Democratic institutions, instead they have state party oligarchies (no members of their parliament represent society -there are not constituencies nor surgeries to serve citizens- their MPs simply obey their party leader, they vote on party orders). Such system -close to dictatorship- produces institutional corruption, as illustrated by those countries under the “proportional vote system” of the state party oligarchies (this institutional problem goes beyond the Hispanic countries: Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy and all the East European countries which had been shaped by dictatorships suffered the same illness, unfortunately Germany too -that is leading the EU to disaster- has not representative Democracy -though corruption is mitigated by Protestant ethics.)

With this unethical behaviour -for the sake of chieftancy- president Correa shows that he is no exception to the pathologies of his hispanic culture, as Assange and Snowden may be bitterly discovering at a heavy cost.

These pathologies also explain the unethical behaviour of another Spanish politician and former examining magistrate Mr. Garzon who, in a gratuitous press release, stated two days ago that he will not defend Mr Snowden, contradicting thus his first planetary statements.
With such infamous gesture Baltasar Garzon has shown his absolute lack of ethics. His egocentric drive prevented him from keeping his mouth shut, rushing instead to another occasion of boasting himself. Garzon shows no respect for the extremely difficult situation of a citizen as courageous as Mr Edward Snowden. However, for those who knew Garzon, it was obvious that he is not equipped with the intellectual education and moral qualities needed for a challenge of this magnitude. Nor is acting Garzon's employer, president Correa, out of ethical principles as he publicly boasted; otherwise he would had not left Mr Snowden in such a predicament by revoking the London Consulate document to reach Ecuador in order to advance his political asylum claim.

Sincerely,
Meizoso

Spain, kingdom of corruption and impunity:
Small-Town Mayor’s Millions as Exhibit A on Graft in Spain

LA MUELA, Spain — In the good times, the former mayor of this small, wind-swept village of 5,000 in northern Spain was busy building: the olive oil museum, the wind museum, the museum of life. If that were not enough, there was the new bullring, the sports center with 25,000 seats and the zoo with the exotic-bird park.
The former mayor, María Victoria Pinilla, seemed to be prospering personally, as well. Three stately houses took shape on her family plot. There was an apartment in Madrid, a beach house and a vacation home in the Dominican Republic next to Julio Iglesias’.
Now, however, the fence outside the former mayor’s family compound is in disrepair and half-built housing developments lie abandoned on the outskirts of the village. And last month, Ms. Pinilla, 57, became just one more in a growing throng of political officials in Spain to face corruption charges.
Investigators calculate that she and other family members accumulated about $24 million, mostly from shady land deals during Spain’s boom years. Searching her property, the police had to borrow a bill-counting machine from a local bank to help total up all the cash: $485,000.
... Spain is by no means Europe’s most corrupt nation — Greece and Italy are considered more so. But the sheer volume of political corruption cases here is proving deeply embarrassing.
Judges here are now investigating about 1,000 officials ranging from small-town mayors like Ms. Pinilla to former cabinet ministers. Even the country’s conservative prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, has turned up on a list of his party’s stalwarts who were supposedly taking payments under the table.
Nor has the royal family been immune. King Juan Carlos’s son-in-law and daughter have been subpoenaed in a corruption inquiry that began with the investigation of officials in the Balearic Islands.
There are so many scandals that some newspapers have taken to organizing all but the biggest developments in a quick-list format, rather than writing whole articles.
Some experts believe there is still far more to come, the result in Spain of a political structure that puts huge power in the hands of local officials. Many of them can grant procurement contracts or rezone land with little or no consultation.
